Interpretation:
This painting illustrates Li Bai’s classic Tang poem “Viewing the Waterfall at Mount Lu”. The towering cliffs and cascading waterfall dominate the vertical scroll, guiding the viewer’s gaze downward through layers of mist, rock, and pine.

The waterfall plunges from the heights in pure white strokes, contrasting with the earthy tones of the mountains — capturing both the majesty and motion of nature. The scene evokes a sense of awe and transcendence, echoing Li Bai’s famous line: “It seems as if the Milky Way were falling from the heavens.”

At the painting’s base, a small pavilion and tiny figures anchor the vastness, emphasizing humanity’s humility before nature’s power. This painting blends the dynamism of water with the solidity of mountain, symbolizing the balance between strength and grace central to traditional Chinese aesthetics.
